Rock Pool Magic

You’d think that in a South Pacific Paradise, that there’d be a shortage of water. There’s not. Samoa seems to have a million and a half beautifully cool refreshing pools.

Amaile Rock PoolThe nicest one we experienced was out on the South Coast of Upolu in a village called Amaile, in Aleipata. I’m not sure if it is a public pool or not but they probably charge TWO TALA (the equivalent of a dollar NZD) to enter if it is. Everything seems to cost TWO TALA around here, but it would be worth every cene of it after a hot day in the sun, and more!

As we had an “introduction” from the local MP so we were sweet to roll on up and head down to the magic.

In this picture, I’ve been snapped headed gently toward the ocean at around 3-4 knots by the water flow from a strong natural spring in a cave to the left of the picture.

Amaile Cave & Springs
From the chief’s house one can walk down the steps to the sea edge and this reveals an amazing cave, fresh water spring and pool. The locals soak in it and wash in it, as with every river pool on the islands.

This rock pool and spring is simply magic and VERY much needed after a hot day “at the office” touring the Tsunami affected areas. The Tsunami reached the bottom of the house in this picture, just over the low garden wall.

Amaile is entirely a Catholic village with the church in the centre and houses built all around on the hilltop. There’s no question that this is a little piece of Paradise – hit by a Tsunami but you’d never know it, off the beaten track.

Just another day in the life of a Web Ambassador. I simply can’t wait to get back to real “work” – not!
